RUI

Rui caught the DJ bug at the ripe old age of 13 when he encountered a DJ for the first time at a local house party, which then saw him make a weekly pilgrimage to DJ City every weekend chatting to other DJs, taking lessons and mastering the craft before purchasing his first set of decks at 14. Less than a year later he was playing some of the biggest underage events across Melbourne and earning the status as one of the most respected up and coming DJs in the scene before he even turned 18.

Not surprisingly as soon as the clock ticked over to his 18th birthday the offers came in thick and fast for venues all over town, leading him down the path that has now seen him spin at Melbourne hotspots such as The Emerson, Prince Of Wales, Seven, 170 Russell, Section 8, Rooftop Bar, Blue Bar, Belleville, and Storyville amongst others.

While know primarily as a hip hop DJ, this doesn’t do the man justice as he has drawn elements from multiple genres to definite his sound as an “over the top house party in a club”, which is no surprise given he sights the likes of cross genre legends such as A-Trak, Busy P, DJ Craze, Just Blaze, What So Not, Hermitude and Golden Features as his greatest influences... This is a man who breaths music, bleeds DJing and is always on the hunt for tunes that will set him apart while still versatile enough to rock almost any club from underground hip hop to RnB, party jams, disco and house.

Currently riding high after a breakout year in 2017 which saw him sign to renowned boutique Melbourne agency 100% Phat, helping to guide the 3181 crew to victory in Section 8’s ‘Battle 8’ event plus making multiple trips interstate and playing over 170 shows, the only way is up for one of Melbourne’s hardest working and most in demand party rockers.
